Obituary: Jane (Betty) Mowl, Class of 1940

Predeceased by her husband of 55 years Harold Merwin Mowl, Sr., grandson Kevin Scott Mowl, parents Merrill and Gertrude Wilson, brother Arnold Wilson, and sister Edna Wilkinson.

Survived by her children Harold (Mary) Mowl of Pittsford, Rita (Robin) Mowl of Fishers IN, and Gary Mowl of Knoxville TN; grandchildren Amelia Mowl (and fiancée Stephanie Stevens) of Frederick MD, Carlene Mowl (and fiancé Christopher Stahlnecker) of Brighton NY, Anthony (Fallon) Mowl of Austin TX, and Jon Mowl of Alexandria VA; dear niece Jane (Michael) Wandell of Parker CO; brother-inlaw Donald (Mary) Mowl of Washington PA; and sister-in-law Betty Lawson of Brandenton FL.

A 1940 graduate of the Western Pennsylvania School for the Deaf (WPSD) in Pittsburgh, Betty worked at several different jobs, which included making parachutes during World War II. She retired as a postal service worker in 1980. Betty was very active in both the Pittsburgh and Rochester deaf communities. She held leadership positions for the Alumni Association of WPSD and the National Fraternal Society of the Deaf (NFSD). Betty was a long time member of the choir for the Trinity Lutheran Church of the Deaf in Pittsburgh and a member of the Alpha Lutheran Church in Rochester NY. Betty was a faithful member of the Deaf Elders Around Rochester (DEAR) since moving to Pittsford in 1990.

Friends may call Monday, 5-8 PM at the funeral chapel (2305 Monroe Ave). A funeral ceremony will be held at All Seasons Chapel, White Haven Memorial Park (210 Marsh Road) on Tuesday, 10:30 AM.
