Obituary: Robert Zatko, Class of 1962

Robert M. Zatko, 71, of New Kensington, formerly of Jennerstown, passed on August 28, 2014 at Allegheny Valley Hospital. Born April 19, 1943 in Springdale, he is the son of Matthew and Emily (Brodniansky) Zatko. He is also preceded in death by his wife Susanne (Bittner) Zatko in 1993. Mr. Zatko is survived by his son Matthew Zatko and wife Bobbie of Somerset; grandson Spencer Zatko; sisters Elizabeth “Betty” Gelorme and husband Tony of Springdale and Norma Boyles of Manassas, VA.; and several nieces and nephews.

He is the brother-in-law of R. Craig Bittner, Kim L. Bittner and wife Lorry, and Cynthia L. Barron and husband Charles, all of Somerset. Mr. Zatko was a retired self-employed painter and wall paper hanger. He was also a graduate of the Western Pennsylvania School For The Deaf and a past board member of the school’s Alumni Association.

He attended Gallaudet University in Washington, DC. He was an avid Pitt Panthers fan and enjoyed spending time and attending Pirates games with his grandson Spencer. He was a member of the Jennerstown Volunteer Fire department.

Friends will be received from 2-8 PM Tuesday September 2 at MILLER FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY, SOMERSET, where a service will be held at 11 AM Wednesday September 3, Rev. Keith Fink officiating. Interment at Somerset County Memorial Park.
