Obituary: Dwayne Sumpter, Class of 1972

Dwayne Andrew Sumpter of Youngstown, passed away on Tuesday, May 19, 2015 at 11:29 a.m. in the emergency room of St. Elizabeth’s Hospital. He was 63.

Dwayne was born on May 8, 1952 in Pittsburgh, PA, the son of Ruben Sr. and Anna Nelson Sumpter.

Mr. Sumpter was a graduate of Western Pennsylvania School for the Deaf in 1972. He was employed as a Janitor for the Youngstown YMCA.
He was a member of the Mahoning Valley Association of the Deaf (MVAD). Dwayne enjoyed, fishing, camping, and was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan.

Mr. Sumpter is survived by his longtime companion, Theresa Sammartino; a son, Ali; 4 sisters, Serena, Maxine, Sheraleen, and Cynthia; 6 brothers, Ruben Jr., James, Bernell, Robert, Marvin, and Kevin; 4 grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Dwayne was preceded in death by 3 brothers, John, Mark, and Gladstone;
