Obituary: John Saraka, Class of 1951

John M. Saraka, age 86 of Versailles, passed away at home on Thursday, January 12, 2017. Born December 16, 1930 in McKeesport, he was the son of the late John G. and Mary (Yencho) Saraka.

A 1951 graduate of the Western PA School for the Deaf, John was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church for the Deaf in Wilkinsburg.

A member of the Pittsburgh Typographical Union #7, he retired as a proofreader for Herbick & Held Printing Co. in Pittsburgh and also worked for the Pittsburgh Press and Post Gazette.

John also was a basketball coach for over 15 years for various teams in the Beaver Falls area.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years Patricia (Thomas) Saraka; his daughter Lois Tucker at home; his sons Robert Lee (Sydnae) Saraka of Melbourne, FL and Thomas Saraka of Kittanning; his grandsons Alan Tucker, Robert L. Saraka, Jr., and Andy Saraka; and his sister Ann Burke of State College.

Friends will be received in the Daniel F. Bekavac Funeral Home and Crematory, Versailles, on Tuesday, January 17, 2017 from 2 to 4 PM and 6 to 8 PM. A Funeral Service will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday morning, January 18, 2017, time to be announced. Burial will follow in Greenwood Memorial Park in Lower Burrell.
