Obituary: William “Bill” Vasilko

William Anthony “Bill” Vasilko Sr., 85, of Waynesboro, PA, formerly of West Leechburg, PA, passed away on Friday, January 12, 2018, at Hospice of Washington County in Hagerstown, MD.
A son of the late Andrew Vasilko and Mary (Dranchak) Vasilko, he was born January 26, 1932, in East Vandergrift, PA.

Bill attended the Western Pennsylvania School for the Deaf. He had been employed with Westinghouse in Cheswick for 23 ½ years before retiring in August 1994. He was a former member of Christ the King Church in Gilpin Township, a member of the First Catholic Slovak Union USA, The Pittsburgh Association for the Deaf Senior Citizens Club & Western PA Deaf Senior Citizens Group. He enjoyed working on cars, small engines, wood working and doing household repairs. He also enjoyed watching the Pittsburgh sports teams and spending time with his family.

Survivors include his son, William A. Vasilko Jr. (Carol) of Venetia, PA; a daughter, Mary Ruth Painter (James) of Waynesboro, PA; and six grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Janet (Ruffner) Vasilko in March 2015; three brothers, John, Mike and Steve Vasilko; seven sisters: Veronica Vicini, Agnes Connor, Margie Corrigan, Dorothy Vasilko, Mary Clegg, Betty Chipman & Virginia Hawkey.

Friends will be welcomed by his family on Saturday, January 20, 2018 from 10 AM until the time of ceremonies at 11 AM at Clawson Funeral & Cremation Center, 170 Main Street, Leechburg (724-842-1051) with the Reverend James H. Loew, O.S.B. officiating. Interment following at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, 1030 Pleasant Hill Road, Allegheny Twp. In lieu of flowers the family encourages donations to Hospice of Washington County for Doey’s House www.hospiceofwc.org.
