Obituary: Andrew MacKay, WPSD Class of 1958

Andrew S. Mackay, age 78, of Millcreek passed away Friday, October 19, 2018 at Fairvew Manor.

Andrew was born February 4, 1940, in Punxsutawney, Pa., son of Margaret Kollar Makay and the late Andrew Makay.

He attended the Western Pennsylvania School for the Deaf in Pittsburgh.He is WPSD Graduate of 1958.  He worked for Eriez Magnetics for over 30 years and was a driver for Solvedt Enterprises for over 13 years until his illness. He was a member of the Erie Silent Club.

Andrew was a quiet, private person who read his Bible every night. He loved this time of year, especially the fall colors. He also enjoyed shopping, took care of his mom and sister, and told everyone he would come in contact with to have a “Happy Day.”

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his wife Nancy Walker Mackay and his sister Mary Makay.

He is survived by his mother Margaret Makay, a son Jay (Annette) Mackay, daughter Denise (Jerry) Schwab, daughter Andrea Chambers, all of Erie, and a son Charles (Desiree) Mackay of California. He is further survived by six grandchildren Steven Mackay, Gage and Kollin Schwab R.J. and Alex Hyslop and Andrew Mackay and a great-grandson Owen. Also surviving are sisters Carol (Mike) Lewis, Deborah (Phil) Harris and Sandra Sue Makay, brothers George (Sharon) Makay and Michael (Beth) Makay, and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to offer a special “thank you” to Andrew’s caregivers at Fairview Manor and Great Lakes Hospice for their care and compassion during his illness.

Friends may call at the Burton Westlake Funeral Home, 3801 W. 26th St. (at Powell Ave.), on Wednesday, from 3:00 p.m. until the time of the service at 6:00 p.m.

Burial will be private, at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the family in care of Burton Westlake Funeral Home.
