Obituary: Edward Smith, Class of 1964

SMITH, Edward Ernest – age 74, of Flint Township, departed peacefully on October 23, 2020. A celebration of life service will be held at a later date. Edward was born on January 25, 1946 in Beaver Falls, PA, the son of Edward Y. and June Cook Smith.

]He graduated from Western Pennsylvania School for the Deaf and attended Gallaudet University in Washington, D.C. He retired from General Motors Truck and Bus Group after 30 years of service.

Edward was an avid hunter, fisherman, outdoorsman, and a loyal Pittsburgh Steelers fan. He enjoyed golf, euchre, and was a member of a dart and poker club, but his first love was basketball. His greatest happiness was watching his children and grandchildren play sports, catch fish, and more. Edward was an active member of the Flint Association for the Deaf.

He was a devoted father and grandfather (mother of 3 children, Janet L. Smith) to Colleen L. Smith (Frank B. Amann) of Dublin, CA, Gail E. Smith of Fenton; and Hallie M. Smith (Allen D. Lanning) of Flint; and four grandchildren, Malik B. Amann, Kaitlyn R. Smith, Korryn H. Smith, and Bodhi B. Amann. He was preceded in death by: his parents; sister, Sherry; and two brothers, Tippy and Rex.

Dad/Grandpa, the sweet and “keep it simple” soul he was, will be missed by family and community friends. His laughter will always be contagious!
