Obituary: Richard Friend, Class of 1960

Richard Conrad Friend, Jr., 79, of Hagerstown, passed away, Friday, September 24, 2021 at his home. 

Born October 19, 1941 in Grove City, Pa. he was the son of the late, Richard C. Friend, Sr. and Frances C. (Johnson) Friend. In addition to his parents he also was preceded in death by his sister Carol Rosenmund. 

Mr. Friend retired in 2000 after 34 years of service as a typesetter for the US Government Printing Office, Washington D.C. 

He attended the Western Pennsylvania School for the Deaf, Pittsburgh; he was an Eagle Scout and a lifetime sportsman and outdoors man and loved hunting and fishing; He competed in the World Deaf Olympics for the US in soccer; he also was past president of the Interstate Association for the Deaf (IAD), Hagerstown and a member of the B & O Archery Club in the Baltimore area. 

Mr. Friend is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Nancy D. (Diehl) Friend; five children, Rebecca Andyjohn and husband, Art, Richard Friend, III and wife, Wendy, Barry Friend and wife, Sandy, Bella Luther and husband, Randy and Belle McGaha and husband, John; one sister, Ruth Dorrell and husband, Michael; brothers in law, Larry Diehl and wife, Shirley and Henry Rosenmund; seventeen grandchildren, many great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. 

Services will be private and held at the convenience of the family.
