Jerry L. Bush, 74, of Kernersville, NC, passed away at home on May 26, 2023 after a short illness. He was surrounded by his family as he passed.

Jerry was born on February 14, 1949 to Warren and Hazel Bush in Roaring Springs, PA. After Jerry graduated from Western Pennsylvania School for the Deaf in 1969, he went on to study physical education at Bethany College in West Virginia.

After graduating from Bethany College, he started his first job at Maryland School for the Deaf as an overnight student life counselor, kickstarting a 34 year career. He also had the privilege of coaching basketball, where the last several years he was the Boys Varsity Basketball coach, taking the team to several championship wins.

In 1973, Jerry married Susan Deremer in Bedford, PA. Jerry and Susan went on to have two children, Jennifer Rutkowski and Sheena Wisnasky.

In 2006, Jerry retired to North Carolina and spent his time establishing a poker league in Lexington, NC. He continued to watch his beloved Pittsburgh Steelers play every season. Jerry enjoyed taking trips with his wife to some of their favorite places such as Key West, FL and Las Vegas. He never turned down a beach trip with the family or a vacation in the Outer Banks. He enjoyed watching his three grandkids participate in all their activities such as soccer games, track meets, band concerts and school musicals. He loved telling stories with as much animation and detail as possible and was always able to keep the audience’s attention. He will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Jerry was predeceased by his father and mother. He is survived by his wife, Susan;  two daughters, Jennifer Rutkowski (Andrew) and Sheena Wisnasky (Kiyomi) and three grandchildren, Hermiony, Wyatt and Landon. In addition, he was survived by two sisters, Evelyn Lingenfelter and Lorraine Earon both of Martinsburg, PA.

A memorial service will be held to honor Jerry on Saturday, June 17th at 1:00 p.m. at the Deep River Recreation Center in High Point, NC. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Services for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing of Davidson County (SDHHDC), a nonprofit organization Jerry felt strongly about.
