Pearl was born in Greene County, Pennsylvania to Jennie and Russell Litten on September 16, 1932.
She lived on the farm with her parents and her brother, Harvey, until she left to attend Western Pennsylvania School for the Deaf in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She met and married Vincent Grim, and they lived happily in Cleveland, Ohio. Sadly, Vincent died at an early age on September 1, 1979.
Pearl continued to live in Cleveland, first with her Aunt Virginia and Uncle Joseph, and then with her cousin, David Barovian. Pearl was a wonderful caregiver during her Aunt Virginia’s later years. In 2018, Pearl and David moved to Portland, Oregon.
Later that year, Pearl moved to Chestnut Lane, an assisted living facility for the deaf. She loved it there and the staff and residents loved her. Pearl passed away in Portland at the age of 92 on February 24, 2025.
Pearl was a very special person. She was smart, kind and fun. She loved to joke with people and she even joked with her doctor in her last hours at the hospital where she passed away. People said that she would “light up the room” when she entered.
She always had a smile on her face and a way that would make others feel special.
Pearl is survived by her brother, Harvey Litten, cousins Christine and David Vernier, David, Pam and Bernie Barovian and many nephews, nieces, and other cousins. We will all miss her so much.
