Jim McMahon was hired as a housekeeper during Easter break at the Western Pennsylvania School for the Deaf (WPSD) in April 1980. He later became the foreman of the housekeeping staff before transitioning to the maintenance department.

Over the years, Jim developed extensive knowledge of the school’s buildings, grounds, and history. A substantial portion of this knowledge conveyed by experienced maintenance, including Deaf alumni of WPSD, who provided valuable insights regarding the campus.

Jim was also one of the staff members who lived in the cottage that had converted from a garden shed in 1951.

After forty-three years of dedicated service to WPSD, Jim retired in 2023.

Jim McMahon, who served for many years as a maintenance worker at WPSD and was the husband of Diane (McNamara) Pici-McMahon—an employee with extensive experience at WPSD in Aanarde, the preschool, and the Children’s Center—passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, at the age of sixty-eight.
