Martha E. (Edmunds) Waddell, 88, of Erie and formerly of Pittsburgh and Boston, passed away at her residence on Friday, April 22, 2016.
She was born in Pittsburgh on March 18, 1928 a daughter of the late Covert D. and Sara Grace (Ford) Edmunds.Martha worked for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts at the group insurance commission until her retirement.
As a strong woman she strived to continually better herself. She was a pillar of strength for her family, teaching them through her actions the meaning of true love. Martha loved her great grandchildren and especially enjoyed watching her great great grand babies grow.
She was an active member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Pittsburgh and loved her church community.Martha was preceded in death by her husband Ernest J. Waddell; her sons Joseph R. Simpson, Sr. (Waddell) and William Waddell and three brothers. She is survived by her daughter-in-law Earlene Simpson; grandchildren, Carlene Hollingsworth, husband Markus, Joseph R. Simpson, Jr. and Chemise Simpson; seven great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren. She is also survived by three brothers and two sisters.
Friends are invited to call on Wednesday at the First Good Samaritan, AME Zion Church, 3209 Pennsylvania Ave., Erie, PA 16504 from 11 am until the time of a Home Going Service at 1 pm with the Rev. Amos Goodwine, Jr. Arrangements by the Brugger Funeral Home & Crematory, 845 East 38th Street.
