Betty L. (Long) Hornick of Oakmont, formerly of North Braddock, age 83, died peacefully on Saturday, August 15, 2026.

Betty was the beloved wife of the late William E. Hornick, Sr. for 46 years.

She was the devoted and treasured mother of Cindi (John) Rusak of FL, William E. (Shannon) Hornick, Jr. of Wilkins Twp., Mark Hornick of McKeesport and Evea (Alex Loya) Lawton of Verona.

Betty is also survived by 9 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Betty also leaves behind her cherished and loving sister, Dorothy Long of Cheswick.

Betty was born in Clymer and graduated from Wilkinsburg High school. She trained to become a Licensed Practical Nurse at Columbia Hospital School of Nursing. She remained employed at Columbia until Evea was born, at which time she chose to devote herself fully to her home and family as a stay-at-home mother. AS her children were raised, Betty returned to the workforce and once again shared her gifts with others. She became a Teacher’s Aide at the Western Pennsylvania School for the Deaf, where she worked faithfully for 25 years before retiring. Betty found purpose in helping students and supporting the school community, and her long years of service reflected the same dedication that had marked every chapter of her life.

In retirement, Betty found simple pleasures in reading, word search, watching her soap operas and shopping on QVC.

Friends are welcome on Wednesday from 2-6 pm at Patrick T. Lanigan Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 700 Linden Ave. at Cable, East Pittsburgh, PA 15112, (412) 824-8800, where a Funeral service will be held at 6pm on Wednesday.

Betty will be laid to rest privately on Thursday at Penn Lincoln Cemetery.
