We were thrilled to have WTAE-TV join us to capture the annual tradition of our graduation walk. Our 16 seniors walked the halls of their beloved school one last time before they enter into the next chapter of their lives. They were cheered on by their friends, teachers, and staff members. What a wonderful memory!

EDGEWOOD, Pa. — Sixteen seniors from Western Pennsylvania School for the Deaf walked the halls for one last time as part of an annual tradition marking the end of their school year.

Most of the students have been at WPSD for their entire educational career.

“It’s a wonderful opportunity for the younger students to look up to the older students, and also one last time to walk through these halls,” executive director Carrie Rain said. “Most of them have been here since they were very young, and so, I think it’s a really good memory for them.”

The seniors officially graduated in the school’s auditorium Thursday night and are now set to make their mark on the world.

“WPSD has helped me. I used to struggle a lot with English, and I didn’t have great communication skills. I’ve learned American Sign Language here and English, and they’ve helped me communicate and prepare for my future,” senior Elsie Olwal said.
